Laura Lee Gulledge is an artist, author, and playwright from Virginia. Her debut Young Adult graphic novel Page by Paige (Abrams Books) was nominated for both the Eisner and Harvey Awards, including Most Promising New Talent. Her sophomore release Will & Whit made YALSA’s Top Ten Books for Teens and Kirkus Reviews’ Best Books 2014. She crafts stories that are thought-provoking, funny, and emotionally resonant.
She recently adapted Will & Whit into an Animusical for teens/ tweens, debuting at Ballibay Camp for Performing Arts. She is currently working with inspiring Artners between Virginia, New York, and Vermont in developing the project as a forward-thinking multi-disciplinary musical in addition to an after-school program. Laura Lee enjoys giving workshops and presentations that encourage innovation, demystify the creative process, and spark inspiration in fellow creators.
Laura Lee categorizes her work as instrumentalist and magical realist, meaning she explores the language of metaphors, everyday perception, and is the expression of universal truths. She experiments with the healing power of creative expression, novel apporaches to format/world building, and art as performance. At the core of her art is a love of drawing, learning, and whimsy.
