Marchen's earliest exposure to Japanese geek culture was to the Manga publication Shonen Jump. Growing up he often drew the characters he saw, and he made his own fan-fiction comics based from the original stories. The characters were so cool! He aspired to someday be just as talented as the artists who created them. He drew day in and day out, getting lost in the worlds he created. He knew that someday, he wanted to create original characters with literary depth and amazing action packed scenes and spreads.
The name "Vandel" and "Marchen", his artistic handle, derived from two anime series that he really enjoyed. He loved the name Vandel from "Beet the Vandel Buster" and Marchen from "Marchen Awakens Romance." Starting from the mundane task of creating an email handle for himself, the names evolved into a sort of artistic alias for him and ultimately his self branding.
He plans to expand as an artist, utilizing different mediums of expression to bring his worlds to life. Marchen's goal is to draw and create the characters that he would like to see represented in the media he consumes. He wants people to feel the same connection with and excitement toward his characters as he did with the ones he grew up with.
